Cathode Ray Tube
Also known as direct view televisions, CRTs or Cathode Ray Tube Televisions come in all kinds of sizes and shapes to about 40-inches. They are the TVs that were prevalent in the past. The prices of these TVs are considerably lower than other types and their long lasting features with good picture quality viewable from all angles mean they offer value for money.
Flat Screen Televisions
Flat screen TVs provide 160 degree viewing and is more expensive than a standard television with similar size. However, not all flat screen TVs are perfectly flat, the ‘True Flat’ or ‘Super Flat’ screens have totally flat screen.
Digital Light Processing (DLP)
This was invented by the legendary Texas Instruments in 1987. The television has the ability to process light digitally with the help of an optical semiconductor known as Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) chip, which comprises over one million mirrors. DLP televisions are either rear projection or front projection.
Plasma Display Panels (PDP)
The plasma TVs come in a flat panel variety and usually ranges from 40 to 49 inches. The attraction of plasma TV is the stunning picture quality. Plasma TVs usually last more than 10 years and are lower priced than LCD flat panel TVs. However, they weigh more than the LCD TVs.
Widescreen Televisions
If you prefer home theatres then widescreen televisions are just perfect for you. The widescreen televisions can accommodate the usual proportions of a cinema screen picture.
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
Of the tons of LCD TVs that are available in the market, the flat panel displays are the most popular ones. The flat panel displays are very thin making it suitable for a larger screen to fit in to a particular space.
Combination Televisions
Combination televisions are perfect if you have limited space and do not want to muddle with added wires and components. This type of television has an inbuilt VCR or DVD player. They are often known as Combi TVs. They are ideal for bedrooms, smaller flats or motorhomes and caravans.
